Cricut Crazy!

I know I've been gone all summer but school is almost back in session which mean the Cricut has come out! I'm going to a new school this year and am soooo excited! My living room has been a crafting craze for the last week in an attempt to be ready for the year. I made a 3 ring binder for each month to sort all of the activities.  I also made a new plan book for the year to go with the assessment binders I made at the end of last year. I'm feeling all "Cruicuted Out"....

Words, Words, Words!

I'm making up for all my slacking by doing 2 posts in 1 day!

Wednesday we were supposed to take our kids to the zoo but so it goes in Nebraska that Mother Nature doesn't always have your same plans in mind... Our zoo trip was called off due to a 70% chance of severe weather!  With no lessons planned I decided we would make the day all about the rain.  We did our word work with rain drops and it turned out so cute!  All the kids wrote the word "teacher" cause I think they are lookin' for some brownie points... I LOVE it!

We spent some time in science watching Miss Frizzle and her crazy Magic School Bus and learned all kinds of cool stuff about water!  Then for creative writing they tied in what they learned about the water cycle to decide what they would do if they were a water drop.  My favorite said "I would start in the cloud then drop onto a boy's head, then drop onto a girl's head."  This is why I love creative writing!

Woo Hoo!

To honor my new followers :) and my good friend Ms. M for her sweet post about my wild classroom I now hereby promise to blog regularly in order to catch up on all of the things I should have been blogging about all year long!

Here is a follow up from my post about soil.  We have started talking about how worms help the soil soooo.... we made our very own worms!  All I heard the whole time was "uuuuuhhhhh squiggly lines are hard to make on worms"  hahaha.  So they cut out their very own worms and added a worm fact.  We connected them and added them to our mural.  All of the kids knew that worms lived under the soil (thank goodness cause I've been teaching that for weeks!) so on they went!

Seed Booklet

I made a seed booklet for the students to keep track of the different kinds of seeds we got to sort! It was a great way for them to be able to talk about details and observations.

Soil Unit

Our first graders study soil in the spring. We spent some time reviewing some of the things they learned in Kindergarten by starting an interactive mural in our hallway! We talked about what plants need to grow and where the water and sunlight come from. We even started talking about the layers of soil and where you would plant your seed.  So they decided to plant the seeds they cut out in the top layer.  I will update as we draw in the roots and our stems and flowers begin to grow!

1st Blog Post!

After an entire school year of following AMAZING bloggers I finally decided to enter myself into the blogging world! I just finished the craziest year of my life which was my first year teaching. I taught 1st grade and had the most amazing roller coaster kind of year I ever could have asked for.  I'm totally insane and dance around the room and make funny voices and love my job and my kids more than anything! I can't wait to see what is in the years to come... and the blogs to come! Woo Hoo!
